NEWS FROM INTERNATIONAL AGENCIES

The Institute of Sciences of Food Production (ISPA), a product of a merger amongst Research Centres of the Italian National Council, formally started its activity on January 1, 2002.

ISPA is located in Bari, Italy and will be headed by Dr. Angelo Visconti, former Director of the Institute of Toxins and Mycotoxins from Plant Parasites (ITEM). ITEM has been a prominent member of the European mycotoxin research community.

ISPA will focus its research primarily in certain areas: food production with improved organoleptic and nutritive characteristics, development of processes to produce foods of interest to the agro-industrial community, identification of risks in food safety, and achievement of safe food through monitoring and detoxification of contaminants.
