SUMMARIES OF SYMPOSIA & MEETINGS
The First Panamerican Symposium on Mycotoxins in Industry took
place in Colonia Ampliación Nápoles, Mexico, April
1-4, 2003. The symposium was sponsored by the Latin American Society
of Mycotoxicology (SLAM) on the occasion of their tenth anniversary,
in conjunction with Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México
(UNAM), the International Life Science Institute (ILSI), and the
National Chamber of the Manufacturing Industry (CANACINTRA).In addition
to presentations by specialists in qualitative and quantitative
analysis, risk analysis, control strategies, and import/export legislation,
the program featured a technological exhibition.
The International Association for Cereal Science and Technology
(ICC) held the EU/ICC Cereal Conference in Vienna, March 6-8,
2002.
The goal of the conference was to advance and coordinate cereal
R&D throughout the EU by encouraging an open debate on current
industry challenges. Conference participants discussed a broad
range
of cereal issues in plenary sessions and in such working groups
as Analytical Tools and Methods and Contaminants and Food Safety.
Discussions of mycotoxins as a research priority included the session
Fusarium-Resistant and Toxin-Free Wheat for Europe. More information
