Achievements

Stephen Powers, Ph.D., has been appointed Director of Research and Development at the Boston-based immunoassay manufacturer VICAM.While serving as a senior scientist there, Powers helped develop new assays for mycotoxins,amylase, and mold in tomato products. A graduate of Harvey Mudd College with a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona, Powers brings more than 25 years of experience in academic medical research, industrial biotechnology, and food safety to the position.His previous appointments include Director of the Radioimmunoassay Research Resource Facility at Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic and Director of Chemistry at Immulogic Pharmaceuticals,Waltham, MA.While at Immulogic, Powers managed the preclinical peptide group and process development team and supervised the GMP manufacture of drug supply for Phase I and Phase II clinical trials. In addition to authoring more than 30 scientific publications, he is an author on patents for several inventions.
