Recent Symposia and Conferences

On March 15–17, 2006, approximately 140 participants, mainly from South and Central America, gathered in Córdoba, Argentina, for the MYCO-GLOBE conference on Advances in Research on Toxigenic Fungi and Mycotoxins in South America. The opening session featured comments by Naresh Magan of Cranfield University on the objectives of the conference within the context of the MYCO-GLOBE initiative and a discussion by Rubén Zandomeni of Biotech-EU-Mercosur on fostering cooperative efforts between Latin America and the EU to improve food safety. Additional sessions focused on mycotoxin occurrence, ecophysiology and genetics, risk analysis, and ongoing regulatory issues, as well as discussions and demonstrations of the latest technology for detection and analysis.
