Recent Symposia and Conferences

On April 8 –11, 2006, the Technical University of Vienna in Vienna, Austria, hosted the Eighth European Conference on Fungal Genetics. Researchers, academics, students, and representatives of industry gathered for lectures and discussions on the latest experimental investigations into fungal morphogenesis, development, physiology, metabolism and gene regulation, and other recent advances in fungal genetics. The keynote lecture by Distinguished Mycologist award-winner Salomon Bartnicki-Garcia focused on cell wall assembly and its role in fungal morphogenesis.

The conference schedule included the following satellite meetings at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (BOKU):

The Fourth International FusariumGenomics Workshop on April 7 focused on the rapid growth in resources for Fusarium genomics and the latest contributions to the field of functional genomics. The workshop featured reports on recent progress in detecting and quantifying Fusarium spp; the MIPS Fusarium graminearium database; and the evolution and development and pathogenicity of Fusarium. Attendees of the Third International Aspergillus Meeting on April 7 learned about newly available genomics resources and the latest developments in Aspergillus research. In addition to sessions on genomics, proteomics, and methodologies, highlights included the prestigious Pontecorvo Lecture, held in honor of the famed geneticist Guido Pontecorvo.
