Future Symposia and Conferences

The Fifth Latin American Congress of Mycotoxicology (V CLAM ENM 2006) will occur at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Floriansopolis, Brazil, June 18–21, 2006. In addition to the keynote address, “Quality of Latin American Food in the 21st Century,” the program will include updates on recent JEFCA/FAO actions on food contaminants in developing countries and sessions on rapid testing; laboratory accreditation and ISO 17025; codes of practice for coffee, peanuts, Brazil nuts, and wheat; and mycotoxin control strategies.

The Fourth Mercosur Symposium on Qualitative Storage of Grains will occur in parallel with the previously mentioned Congress of Mycotoxicology. Following the keynote address, “Latin American Grain Quality for Export,” discussions will focus on topics including storage and sampling methods, mycotoxin ecosystems, the economic importance of grain quality, and genetic modification and other mycotoxin reduction strategies.

The joint program also includes a workshop on Brazil nuts on Tuesday, the 20th. The workshop will feature talks on Brazil nut contaminants, good practices in Brazil nut management, advances in processing, and the significance of this crop to the economies of Amazon region countries.

The opening ceremony for the parallel conferences will honor pioneers ofmycotoxins and grain storage in Latin America.
