Future Symposia and Conferences

The Fourth MYCO-GLOBE International Conference will take place at the Institute of Sciences of Food Production (ISPA)(CNR) in Bari, Italy, September 26–30, 2006.

The MYCO-GLOBE Project was started in 2004 to facilitate exchange of research findings and promote collaboration between European Union nations and other countries with which the EU maintains bilateral science and technology agreements.

This year’s conference, Advances in Genomics, Biodiversity, and Rapid Systems for Detection of Toxigenic Fungi and Mycotoxins, will include plenary presentations on the global economic impact ofmycotoxin contamination and an introduction to genomics and bioinformatics.

The first of three one-day sessions, Biosynthesis of Mycotoxins and Genomics of Toxigenic Fungi, will include reports on gene profiling and whole genome sequencing in Aspergillus flavus; the genomics of Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium graminearium; and advances in the biosynthesis of ochratoxin A.

The second session, Biodiversity of Toxigenic Fungi, will feature sessions on the biodiversity of Aspergillus, Fusarium, Penicillium, and African toxigenic fungi and on the role of biodiversity in plant pathogenicity and biological control.

Emerging Detection Methods for Toxigenic Fungi and for Mycotoxins will be presented at the concluding session. Molecular and immunological methods, microsensors, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) are among the advanced detection and analysis technologies to be discussed.

Details of the MYCO-GLOBE conference, including a downloadable brochure, are available on the MYCO-GLOBE website:
