REGULATORY NEWS

European Commission Regulation no. 401/2006 specifies sampling protocols and performance criteria for analysis methods used to officially monitor mycotoxins in foodstuffs. The February 23, 2006, regulation assembles previous EC legislation on sampling and analysis procedures for aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, patulin, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, fumonisins B1 and B2, and T-2 and HT-2 toxins and incorporates them in a single comprehensive policy. The new directive details sampling plans for cereals and cereal products; dried fruits including dried vine fruit and derived products; dried figs, groundnuts, and nuts; spices; milk and milk products; infant formula and followon formula; coffee and coffee products; fruit juice including grape juice, grape must, cider, and wine; solid apple products; apple juice and solid apple products for infants and young children; baby foods; and processed cereal-based foods for infants and young children.
