Symposia and Conferences

An interdisciplinary gathering of scientists discussed the latest research on the biology, chemistry, risk assessment, and toxicology of fungal contaminants in the food chain at the June 17–22, 2007, Gordon Research Conference on Mycotoxins and Phytotoxins in Waterville, Maine (USA). By offering scientists in a variety of fields an open forum in which to share their perspectives, the Gordon Conferences aim to stimulate broad-based, creative approaches to the multidimensional challenge of ensuring food safety and to open new avenues for research on the identification, toxicology, control, and regulation of naturally occurring toxins. In addition to lectures by invited speakers, the program featured discussion groups on a wide range of topics, including human exposure, public health, and epidemiology; detection technologies for organisms and toxins; economic impacts; toxin biosynthesis, regulation, and function; toxicogenomics; and molecular mechanisms.
