SUMMARIES OF SYMPOSIA AND CONFERENCES

Researchers shared the latest findings on the Aspergillus genome at the Sixth International Aspergillus Meeting (“Asperfest”) on March 15–17, 2009, in Alisomar, California. Asperfest, a satellite workshop of the Fungal Genetics Conference, is coordinated every year by the Aspergillus Genomes Research Policy Group (AGRPG), an educational and discussion forum dedicated to advancing and disseminating Aspergillus genomics research.

This year’s meeting featured updates on the ongoing development of a comprehensive Aspergillus genome database and discussions of promising directions for relevant future research. Speakers at the sessions approached the Aspergillus genus from a variety of perspectives, including metabolic pathways and the metabolome, comparative genomics and databases, and genetics and cell biology. Poster abstracts on biochemistry and metabolism research addressed a range of pivotal issues in cell biology, comparative and functional genomics, and gene regulation.
