Mycotoxicology Newsletter

April 1998   Volume IV, No. 1

Letter from the Editor

This issue of Mycotoxicology Newsletter is the inaugural issue for me in my new role as editor. As my life's work has been devoted to the study of mycotoxins, I am sincerely grateful to Urban Diener for his willingness to pass on the torch to me. It is with great pleasure that I take on my new editorship; I feel this honor will be a wonderful addition to the roster of my professional duties at CNR Institute of Toxins and Mycotoxins from Plant Parasites, where I serve as Director. Either through direct cooperation/ visits to CNR or by reading CNR's scientific publications, most of you are already familiar with the research activity of the Institute of Toxins and Mycotoxins (founded in 1980), which is one of the world's foremost institutes devoted to the study of the chemistry and the biology of mycotoxins and mycotoxin-producing fungi. Urban created the Mycotoxicology Newsletter, got it off-the-ground, and acted as a superb editor for eight years. For all that he has done with the newsletter and for all the groundwork he has laid, I am very thankful. I only hope to keep up his tradition of producing high quality editorial.

However, I cannot fulfill my role without help, for it is not without the help of many that the MTNL can continue to be produced. From you, the readers, I need the submission of newsworthy pieces and the dates of upcoming conferences. I also need you to submit the names of others whom you feel would benefit from receiving the MTNL. From VICAM, I am forever grateful for their offering of financial support to underwrite the cost of production and distribution. I am also very glad that VICAM has made a steadfast commitment not to commercialize this newsletter. In closing, please do not hesitate to contact me. I need to hear from you in order to ensure that the MTNL continues to be as informative as always. Faxes, E-Mails, and phone calls are always especially appreciated for their immediacy; letters via air mail are also welcome but take at least a week to arrive.
