FUTURE SYMPOSIA & CONFERENCES

The INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TOXICOLOGY OF FUMONISIN has been scheduled for June 28-30, 1999 in the Washington, D.C. area. This conference will be organized by ILSI and supported by the FDA and NTP USA. An intensive scientific program is foreseen involving several aspects: chemistry, comparative toxicology, NTP bioassay, and mechanisms of carcinogenesis, occurrence and related issues. Contact: Albert Pohland, Joint Institute +202-401-2893; E-Mail: AEP@CFSAN.FDA.GOV.

As is customary, the IUMS CONGRESS OF MYCOL- OGY, in association with the Congress of Microbiology, will be held in Sydney, Australia, from August 16-20, 1999. A very extensive program including 5 Plenaries and 30 Symposia has been planned, and includes 1 symposium on mycotoxins, as well as probable additional topics such as human exposure, biosynthesis, fungal invasion of plants, alternaria and Fusarium toxins. Other symposia of interest will deal with secondary metabolite biosynthesis, fungal plant interactions, food mycology, fungal transposons, fungi as biocontrol agents and several with fungal bio-diversity. For further information, visit the IUMS web site: www.tourhosts.com.au/iums. Fax: IUMS Congress Organizers +6-129-262-3135.

The 2nd COST-835 Workshop on MYCOTOXINS IN PLANT DISEASES organized by the European COST-835 and the ISPP Fusarium Committee will be held from October 7-9, 1999, in Rome, Italy. Major topics will include: 1) Role of mycotoxins in plant diseases, 2) Occurrence of mycotoxins in infected plants, and 3) Production of mycotoxins by plant pathogens.
